Excitement Builds As WastAway Aruba Closes in on Start Date
Oranjestad, Aruba, June 25, 2009 – In just under a month, Aruba will become the first island nation in the world to deploy the WastAway Recycling System and in doing so will also become one of the most eco-friendly nations on the planet.
WastAway Process Building with the high points of Aruba in the background.Planned for July 17, 2009, WastAway Aruba will begin operations to recycle half of Aruba’s Municipal Solid Waste. 95% of the trash received will be recycled, most being converted into a pathogen-free, environmentally safe medium called Fluff ®. For the immediate future, the Fluff will be used as a much-needed soil amendment on the island.
With less than a month remaining before the mid-July start date, everything has been “smooth sailing” on the project site. “All sub-contractors, Serlimar Technicians and Bouldin & Lawson employees have done a tremendous job in achieving the work goals to get to this point in the project,” says Art Oxley, Bouldin and Lawson’s Project Manager for WastAway.
Selimar Technicians work on the installation of WastAway equipment inside the Aruba facility.A great deal of work has been completed in the month of June. The process building that includes the tipping floor has been completely enclosed with all roof and side panels in place. The remaining doors and skylights are being installed and all process equipment has been assembled and installed inside the plant. The key remaining tasks are related to final electrical work, testing of equipment and remaining civil work.
The project is currently on schedule with operations to commence on July 17, 2009 with a celebration planned by the government at the WastAway Aruba facility.
